Advantages: pretty good basic account

Disadvantages: limited Electron usage

I opened an easycash account with Bank of Scotland nearly six years ago to have my salary paid in. It was just after Halifax had taken over and there were quite a few changes but I felt they treated me well and the basic account was all I needed. I enjoy being a customer there and felt I was treated well and fairly. I have had some bad credit history and could not upgrade when I tried to, to their current account, for this reason. However, they simply said try later when your rating improves but I am more than happy with this. There is no overdraft facility, which I would not use anyway and there is only the Visa Electron, which I have found to be quite sufficient for my needs. The only downside to the Electron is that Tesco online will not take this to pay for your online shopping!!!! Very annoying, as I did my first ever online shop then had to cancel it all as this was my only debit card! They would not give me a reason why they took this in the shop but not online!

Their customer service is good and I have never had any problems at all with the online banking, quite the opposite, it allows you to easily keep on top of your finances and check your statements, transactions and direct debits. They have a great payments section online where you can set up regular bills to be paid too, which is really great.

The only other product I have ever had with Halifax is their Home insurance which I took up two years ago - buy buildings and get contents insurance half price...this amounted to only £17.50 per month for both which was very competitive, although I passed on this for the next year when they upped it to nearly £25.00.

To sum up, I think they are pretty good, but would not do a song and dance about it!
