Advantages: local to me

Disadvantages: unhelpful staff

Halifax are a well known high street bank offering a range of services including mortgages, savings accounts, isas and insurance products. They are part of the HBOS group which owns a large share in the UK mortgage/savings industry. Whether thats a good or bad thing Im not too sure yet.

I have savings with Halifax and until recently I hadnt had any problems. My current and savings account ran smoothly and internet banking was reliable and something I cant do without. The problems arose when I opened a joint account with my partner. I had a problem with putting that account on my internet banking. When I went back into the branch they were really unhelpful which is something I hadnt come across with Halifax before. When I refused to ring the helpline someone finally offered to help - i think it took them 2 clicks on their computer to sort it. Was it really too much to ask.

All in all I like Halifax and think they have done an excellent job in the past but just recently they have gone down in my estimations. What a shame one member of staff can spoil a companies reputation in someones eyes. Had it been the 1st account I was opening with them I doubt I would be sticking around.

Summary: indifferent at the min

I work for the credit card collections of halifax...on the whole the company treat their customers like crap. We are basically told "get money, don't try and help the customers other than to get money from them", so advising seeing a lawyer about looking through a contract or talking to a financial advisor is wrong -_-
