Advantages: Easy to use, secure less time consuming

Disadvantages: When the site is down

I have recently started to use internet banking with HSBC! Having had my first baby I havn't the time to go to town just to transfer money and to check my statements!

My partner suggested I try it and I am glad I did!

The website itself is full of information on loans, credit cards bank accounts, mortgages, insurances etc! Very neatly set out (but you would expect this from an internet banking site)! It does look very organised but is very easy to use and easy to understand (well HSBC is the peoples bank)!

On the left side of the homepage there is the internet banking link - When you register you are given a 12 character ID, this is much better than a username and you can hide it away and nobody would ever guess it! Once you input this number you have two passwords to put in - the first being your date of birth (okay so this is quite easy for people to find out) and below that you have to enter three numbers from a six number passkey you think of yourself! Hsbc asks you for a certain combination of numbers from your passkey and it changes each time you use it - making it very hard for hackers!

Once you have input all your codes and IDS (which sounds like a time consuming exercise but in reality takes one minute) you have complete access to your bank account (or all your bank accounts with HSBC)! If you have more than one bank account then they are set up once logged in and you can click on whichever one you want! Then once logged in the worlds your oyster! One feature of the personal internet banking part is the fact you can cancel any paper statements that you recieve, which is another safety feature, due to the fact you are not left with the risk of somebody going through your bin to find your statement! Other things you can do online include

* Ability to pay bills

* Set up standing orders

* Transfer money - very easy all that is required is a bank account number and a name of who you are sending it to - or you can automatically and quickly transfer to another of your own bank accounts - You can also save the people you are transferring to so you don't have to fill in the details of someone you regularly transfer money too

* Stop direct debits

* Request your pin numbers

Another good feature is that after a short period of being idle on the site you are logged out - this makes me feel very secure - especially when I have to dash out and I can't remember whether or not I have logged out!

All in all HSBC internet banking is fantastic and helps give you some extra time that us busy people find hard to get!

Summary: easy navigation, site can though be slow

Good review especially on the security aspects, I wuld have liked to know about the service levels on the account and how responsive they are to requests.
