Advantages: A breeze to use. No-fuss transfers.
Disadvantages: None.
I have held a account with HSBC since I was, oooh, 11 or so...? A long time anyway. When I went to Uni, I signed up with a few different banks to benefit from the student freebies, but hated dealing with any bank other than HSBC. I have since stayed loyal to this bank, & now hold several accounts with them.
I signed up to the online banking service when it first started. Can't remember when that was - several years ago though! I've always thought it's a great service, but it wasn't until I signed up with Halifax online banking (for my mortgage) that I realised just how much better it is than others.
The site itself is very modern looking, with splashes of the trademark HSBC 'red'. The homepage highlights any current offers, links to all their services, & provides options to log on to your personal or business accounts.
Once you've logged onto your account (you'll need to register at the bank to receive an internet banking code) you can choose to look in further detail at each account held with the bank. Money can easily & more importantly, instantly, transferred betwen accounts; new accounts can be opened online & personal details can be updated. HSBC also score highly when transferring money to other banks & institutions - payments are again instant - I can access money in another account within 2 hours of transferring it, although with other banks this can take up to 5 business days.
A new service also offered is that of being able to activate new cash/credit cards online. Much easier than calling the bank, & much cheaper than an 0845 number!
I can't think of anything negative to say about the service. Perhaps that the online message service is a bit of a faff in that it takes far too many steps to read & delete messages, but it's a rather petty negative I have to say!
Highly recommended!
Summary: Looking to change your bank - try this one!

- 22/06/09 I left them some years ago because I had such terrible customer service. My son now has an account with them, and the Indian call centre has been so bad that I feel like starting an anti HSBC campaign! |
