Advantages: No DD missed charges and helpful advice

Disadvantages: None

I recently opened an account with HSBC after having numurous issues with barclays. I had started to tar all banks with the same brush and I was dreading setting an account up with another bank.... But Hooray they were great, I was welcomed into the bank. Taken into a office to sort out my account. It was a friendly guy who went through my details, explained all about the accounts that were available to me, without any hard sell.

I wa swiftly set up an account, he also gave me some good advise for my account too and the best way about improving my credit rating. I also like the fact that HSBC avoid doing high charges and do not charge for any direct debits that are unpaid, however they do contact you to help you avoid missing direct debit payments again, which I feel is a great scheme which all banks should follow to ensure people keep good credit scores in the current climate. Thumbs up HSBC!!

Summary: Brilliant service

Most of the other reviews are from long standing customers, I thought it would make a change to review it from my point of view as a new customer. Regarding the charges, I am only quoting that was in the leaflet that I was given where it doesnt charge for missed DD but will close your account if persistant.

I think possibly your review is a bit premature if you are a new customer. I would like to get more of an idea of what they are like over a number of years, not the account opening stage. I have never heard that HSBC are any better on charges than any other bank so would be interested to know if long standing customers feel the same!
