Advantages: world wide

Disadvantages: charges

I have been banked with HSBC for 5 years now and they have nearly always been very accommodating and helpful, but just recently they have refused to give us an overdraft so when we now go overdrawn even if it is by £5 then they charge you £25 for the pleasure how nice of them is that (not). My husband has phoned up and on numerous occasions managed to get them to cancel the charge or at least half it which I suppose is a good thing about this bank.
When we have to phone up we choose the number we phone carefully and get a call centre in Scotland otherwise you phone up and get a call centre in a foreign country and half of the time they can not understand what you are saying, I am so not racist but this is so not helpful when you have a problem which needs sorting.
HSBC do an account called HSBC plus where you pay £12.95 a month and you get a higher interest rate on your accounts, you also get other benefits such as holiday insurance which is very handy. HSBC are not a bad bank they just need to sort out their charges along with the rest of the banks. I have recently put my child's trust fund account with HSBC and all seems fine so far so would at the moment recommend them for your child's trust fund account.

Summary: a good bank who needs to rethink the charges
