I used to have a current account with hsbc from the age of 16 for aproximatly 7 years.
T be honest at 16 i just picked a name out that seemed like a major bank and decided to bank with them. At first they were fine and as i was young no overdraft was offered and when i started work at 18 i decided to stay with them and as soon as i turned 18 i was flooded with offers of overdrafts loans and credit cardfs with them. This i really hate as at 18 it al seems a novelty and you really have no idea about money . I would like to see the agae uped to 20 or ever higher so it gives young people a chance in life, now i know this is not hsbc's fault but the pushing young people into credit and debt i think is un ethical and down right money grabbing.

I was good at that time and did not go for anything they offered. When i bought my own home things changed i found paying the bills a big shop and changed jobs and ended up without guaranteed money and when i turned to hsbc for a littlle assistance they were more than willing to help, a litltle too willing. what started as a £100 overdraft they continued to up it without even asking if i wanted it untill it finally reached £1000. I admit i was crap with money and got my self into a really pickle but even when i went to the cash point even at the limit of my over draft hsbc just kept handing out the money and pilling on the charges until finl crunch time came at £3500 overdrawn with a £1000 overdraft i mean how can any bank allow that to happen at a young age i just needed to go to the cash point and it say no.

Hsbc were not interested at all and were happy to continue like this as they could carry on charging me in exess of £180 a month in charges!

Any way to cut a long story short there customer service were crap there asswer was let us give you a loan for £5000 but no less but all i need was £3500? how does that figure knowing i was bad at handling my money. i aventually took a loan else were and paid them off and shut the account, best thing i ever did!

But i did get my revenge as last year i managed to get them to pay out for those charges and got a cheque for £3650 so it proves that they were the ones that got me into debt as there charges added up to more than the whole debt!

I will never bank there agin and would never recommend them i am glad the banks are in difficulty now as they have bled us all dry for far too long!

Summary: They are crap
