Advantages: Solid bank

Disadvantages: Old fashion

I have already written about Barclays, the bank I bank with. I opened an account with HSBC at the peak of the financial crisis since I had to diversify the number of banks holding my savings.

I was already a client of 3 different banks and opening an account with HSBC proved easy, they asked me the usual 2 copies of address and passport. However, the chap who opened the account for me was clearly trying to sell me their premium service and I found it cheecky when he told me that he "had to walk me through the features and benefits" of this account even if I had told him I was not interested, because HSBC had a policy of always informing the client of what they think is best for me.

In the end I opened a saving account, their bond rates are quite poor compared to other banks. They also offered me an overdaft facility, which I did not want and managed to get removed.

I now have a cash card which is quite widely accepted.

In terms of service, I must say that I hate the fact that the time when I went to pay some cash I had to fill in a form stating how many 10 and 20 pounds notes I had. I think it is quite old fashion.

I do not like them too much to be honest and just leave my money there.

Summary: I do not like them

I'm sorry ive been with hsbc for 6years now and they are awful, my boyfriend has been with them for 9years now hes trying to claim back £1600 of bank charges especially as he has been made redundant and they didnt want to help him and then offewred £1000 so its going further as its a financial hardship case, we have both changed banks.
