Advantages: Great service, Convenient

Disadvantages: Cannot call direct to branch

After a bit of general nosing around on dooyoo for the past few weeks, it came to my attention that there are a hell of a lot of poor reviews for banking companies. This compelled me to write about my experiences with my bank, HSBC.

I joined HSBC a number of years ago, probably around the 2000 mark and although i was only ten at the time, they were very helpful in letting me set up the basics. Everything a 10 year old could want, i was given a basic savings account and a promise from my mum that she would start paying me some money in every week! Unfortunately the latter never occurred!!! But the savings account i still have today, and have never had any problems.

I hear you say that a ten year old should not have any banking difficulties and therefore its not really a fair test. Well i agree with you.

However, i am now nearly 20, and have set up a cash ISA with HSBC and also set up all my student loan payments through them. The latter, is a massively complicated task, as im sure anyone who has been through the process will tell you. Fortunately, HSBC have been nothing but helpful, and i have always found my loan payments in on time and with no problems.

I also wanted to change my overdraft limit. I went into the store and within 30 minutes it was done, very quick meeting with the manager, who saw me straight away, and it was all done and dusted.

By comparison, i went with my girlfriend for her to do this at natwest and she not only had to make an appointment for the following week (no good if you urgently needed the money) but also waited a lot longer just to see a sales advisor than i did to see the proper manager of the bank.

Another great service is the online transactions which HSBC allows me to make. Other banks enforce you to use a card reader or have some kind of delay in the transaction; not so with HSBC, who credit your account or that of the person you are paying within the click of the button on the webpage.

It really is a fantastic service and while I accept that other people may have problems and this is inevitable, I believe that HSBC is one of the better banks out there, and i would certainly recommend them to anyone, no matter what there age.

Summary: A good banking service

I have never had reason to change and been with them for life, their on-line service is also great and does everything one needs, Just stay in credit though.

Enjoyed your views.. Personally, I've never experienced an even average customer service performance from any banks. They make it as hard as possible for you to question their own fees. They do not know what itemised billing is.

My first bank, and one that I still stick with today. It is mostly through convenience though; I've never really challenged them to keep me as a customer. I probably should do so.
