Disadvantages: Do try to sell you things you don't necessarily want, I.E student credit card

After huge difficulties with Natwest and a number of issues that they refused to sort out, I decided it was time for a bank change when it came to getting a student account for University.

I went into Lloyds and they were incredibly helpful about sorting out my student account. I was given my own personal advisor at my home branch who talked me through each step of the process to set up the account, and also helped me to set up online banking which has proved to be the most useful thing ever! The service has never failed to be just as good on my countless visits to the bank, whether to pay in a cheque or increase my overdraft. They also ensure that each year you go in for a review of the account to ensure that it's meeting your needs. This is a little bit of a sales ploy, but if you stand your ground they won't ask again.

The best thing about the Lloyds TSB student account is that they don't give you a ridiculously huge overdraft from day 1. This is brilliant as it makes you more responsible with your money, and reduces the temptation that some people have to spend spend spend in the first term. It's not long before you can extend your overdraft, and this is easy to do online, on the phone, or in your nearest branch.

The Lloyds TSB online banking is infinitely easier to use and manage than that of Natwest. It's secure in that it requires two passwords and an ID number to log in. Also it automatically logs you out after a certain time of inactivity. The online banking is easy to navigate, and you review your statements and overdraft and organise standing orders and direct debits, all in one place!
