Nationwide Building Society
Advantages: None that I can think of
Disadvantages: You may lose access to your money as and when they feel like it.
Tried to perform a trivial transaction on my Nationwide FlexAccount a few days ago, reached the final step and was told "you need to use your card reader".
But, Nationwide had neglected to send me such a device, and had certainly made no attempt to verify that I had one.
Left a message with Customer "Service" who eventually got back to me - but instead of offering to help me complete the transaction I was quite rudely told that if I didn't have a card reader then that was that. Refused to escalate to someone who could solve my problem.
Aside from the obvious technical/logistic problems inherent in these devices, Nationwide have made a number of fatuous and unhelpful suggestions about what I should do. They have not even recognised their own failure to provide equipment which they insist customers use.
After experiencing their earlier incompetence at handling an incoming ISA transfer - I have decided that this is the final straw. They have lost my business (both the FlexAccount and the Cash ISA).
So, be warned, Nationwide may decide to change their rules without notice and leave your money in their hands - refusing to recognise problems of their own making.
Summary: Avoid (I would have given no stars if that were possible)
