I have been a customer of nationwide since I was a small child and my grandmother set up a savings account, the money in which I used to buy my first car when I was 17. I currently have the same savings account, a current account, loan (which I used to buy my second car) and an internet savings account with nationwide I have never had any ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Making money (328 words)

There's a lot of talk about "carpetbagging" these days, whereby savers deposit a relatively small sum of money into a Building Society account in the hope of gaining a substantial windfall. Most Building Societies have now put up defences against such practices, and therefore savers should not open an account with a windfall in ...  Read the complete review

Carpetbagger(n) An astute investor, often of modest means, who spots brilliant investment opportunities. In recent years, the best opportunities have come from mutual building societies and insurers; opening membership accounts for as little as £100 to qualify for windfalls from the inevitable process of conversion and takeover. ...  Read the complete review

Man, I love doing my business with that woman behind the counter at my local Nationwide. The service is good too. I get a high rate of interest on my savings with almost no tax at all. I can have thousands upon thousands of pounds in my account and they wont succumb to new shareholders by floating on the stock market. My local ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Nationwide Building Society: Spare Some Change, Guv'nor? (825 words)

Right, I’m just going to start this opinion by saying that I love Nationwide. If it was a lady, it would say “Ooh, I just love the way you scoff that curry and leave me all the washing up,” and would mean it. If it was a lady, I would wine and dine it in Paris with champagne and caviar in the dusky summer twilight, whispering ...  Read the complete review

Nationwide Building Society offers Internet Banking. To access this service, you need an existing account such as a current account (called a FlexAccount), and you can then register. Your customer number and passnumber are sent by post within a week or so. You can then access your accounts with these two numbers and some memorable data (passwords) ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Nationwide Building Society: Not Another Bank (669 words)
by - written on 07/07/01 (Very useful, 314 readings)
Rating:

I've held accounts with Nationwide all my life. I've always been impressed with their levels of service, and the accounts/mortgages they offer. However, recently- as they are one of the only remaining building societies, some people have stated that they'd like them to become a bank. Surely I can complain, I'd get loads of free ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Certainly one of the best (248 words)
by - written on 11/06/01 (Very useful, 66 readings)
Rating:

I have banked with several companies and have found Nationwide to be among the best. Probably best of all are its interest rates - among the highest on the high street for current or savings accounts. I have also found customer service very helpful as I have used it several times - the telephone number is also free. I pay no cash machine charges ...  Read the complete review

Nationwide Building Society: Wasting Money Hand Over Fist (361 words)
by - written on 28/05/01

Can annyone tell me how much of our money the Nationwide Building Society is wasting? Once or twice every two weeks, I go into my branch of Nationwide (Liverpool City Centre) and each time I am there, I see something else that good money has been spent needlessly. The latest is a "Free England Football Team Poster" which has ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review e-savings - over-complex and not worth the hassle (433 words)
by - written on 24/03/01 (Useful, 354 readings)
Rating:

While there is no doubt that the Nationwide Flex Account/e-Savers account offers a good interest rate, compared to its competitors, I wonder whether the complex relationship between the "e" account and the "traditional" account make it easy to use? The problem is that you can't just open an "e-savers" ...  Read the complete review

I'm writing this as a person who has in fact tried AND failed to organise a p*ss-up in a brewery, but these guys should know better... I recently bought a house with my girlfriend and decided to take a mortgage through Nationwide for a bunch of good reasons I won't go into here. We needed to open a joint current account for bills ...  Read the complete review

If you have an account with the NATIONWIDE Building Society and are interested in trying out online banking - you could do worse that giving their recently launch e-savings account a whirl. I already had a ‘Flex Account’ with the Nationwide and this is something that you are required to have to open and operate the e-Savings. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Nationwide Building Society: Good but I don't feel good (164 words)
by - written on 08/12/00 (Very useful, 42 readings)

I have had an account with Nationwide for sometime now and I think that it is great. The interest rates are good but I just wish I could keep the money in there instead of spending it. The staff at my local one are extremely friendly and helpful but the queues have been known to get big, especially on a Saturday morning. I swapped from having a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Simple, but problem free, online banking (322 words)
by - written on 12/11/00 (Very useful, 291 readings)

Nationwide have a large range off accounts if you are wanting to save or invest money, all having varying interest rates depending on whether you need instant access etc. Their current account, the FlexAccount is very good compared to those offered by many banks. Unfortunately the interest rate for the current account isn't anything ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Nationwide Building Society: Nationwide (116 words)
by - written on 23/09/00 (Useful, 26 readings)

Nationwide's current account offers a good value alternative to those provided by the banks. As a previous customer of the Abbey National I was sick of paying charges for everything and anything. It was relatively easy to transfer over the only diificulty was obtaining mandates for all my standing orders - for this you have to rely on the ...  Read the complete review

I think the Nationwide provides an excellent home for your money. Its current account is the best I`ve seen having previously banked with Natwest. No account charges at all even when your account is in debit, so long as you stay within your agreed FREE overdraft limit. Direct debits were free, standing orders, copy statements etc all free. Nationwide Building Society: A kid could do better... (384 words)

Nationwide Building Society can hardly be described as providing a consistant service in it's dealings with customers' accounts. "Sure, no problem," said ...  Read the complete review

I have been transfering my bank accounts to Nationwide for the last month or so and have to say it is becoming one of the singlemost stressfull events of my life. I am leaving NatWest for their increasingly poor customer services but now i think i have found the worst of the lot. I am sure Nationwide just pick their customer service ...  Read the complete review
