Nationwide Direct Mortgage I recently moved house, needed a mortgage and decided to give the 'net a try. I was an existing Nationwide mortgage holder, and have found then very competitive, so they were chosen again. You have to register to be able to use the site. You then have your own space from which you can then choose from the usual building society products, and send and receive secure email. Initially things went well. The mortgage on-line application form was clear and easy to understand with no ambiguous questions. I filled it out and sent it back. The first problem then appeared. A message on screen stated that I had messages, but I was unable to read them. I emailed them to the unsecured address and they mailed me back; to the same place where I couldn't read them. So it took a phone call to discover that there was a fault. Although the customer number I entered as it was issued to me, the first letter had to be a capital letter. After a further call to find out how the application was proceeding, I was told they were waiting for me to confirm. By secure email. Doh! Part two of the form appeared shortly after, which I completed and returned. After that, the site was useless, as no further information appeared on it. Everything was done by phone. Eventually. And I got the mortgage. Eventually. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I would only recommend it if you nearest branch was a considerable distance away!

- 21/09/01 Grrrr, having problems getting a nationwide mortgage via Virginmoney.com, have submitted the application form twice, then keep getting emails telling them to contact them (Virgin) as they haven't got all our details and can't pass the application onto nationwide, except they don't have a contact no and found out today (after several lengthy calls to another virgin company that they can't receive incoming email!!! So now we have no idea where all our highly confidential mortgage info is or what's happening! It seems it's easier to do it the old fashioned way - take time off work and visit the branch! |

- 05/07/01 It's good to know what flaws there are in the system when high finance is involved. These companies need to get rid of the gremlins before going global. |
