Advantages: Banking from Home
Disadvantages: None
Nationwide Home Banking is fantastic. The only time I need to go to a bank is to pay my cheques in or to take money out. One of the great things about it is unlike some banks you don’t need any special client software to be able to use it. All you need to do is register with your local branch, they will send you a letter with a customer number and a separate letter with a pin number. When you first login you are asked for 3 additional pieces of information to be used as keys. You have the flexibility of connecting from any PC with an Internet connection, you just go to the nationwide.co.uk website and click on sign in. As long as you get your customer number, pin number and additional information correct then you will be connected to the system. I have a Flex Account and I can use the home banking to set-up/Amend or Cancel Standing Orders, Set-up Direct Debits, Set-up or cancel Bill Payments, Get an online Mini statement or order a full statement in the post. The bill payments feature is very good, you set up the details of the bill you want to pay and it is stored on line. I use this facility to pay my credit card bills and to transfer money into our savings account. Once the details are stored you can go in at any time and select a bill, choose a date and an amount and the money will be transferred for you. One of the best features is the ability to transfer money to any other account, most banks don’t trust us normal people to do that they think we will mess it up, but Nationwide have a facility for you to put in the sort code, account number and account name, choose a date and an amount and the money will be transferred. This is very useful if you want to get some money to someone quicker than writing a cheque and cheaper than posting it. This service certainly makes my banking an awful lot easier and I will not be switching banks in the near future.
