Advantages: Rarely experience problems

Disadvantages: A little to eager to lend money

I've been a customer with Natwest for years now and have never really experienced any major problems.

I find the customer services very helpful and attentive and if they don't seem to know an answer to a question they WILL find out and get back to you. They seem very 'human' and often if you have made a genuine mistake they will sometimes write off your charges as a "goodwill gesture".

They have a variety of different accounts and my particular account was Advantage Gold (which you pay £12 per month for) and comes with lots of perks such as accidential death benefit, mobile, travel and car insurance etc. It also gives you better interest rates on loans and overdrafts.

They are very good at recifying problems and if they are at fault for something (for instance taking charges that they shouldn't have) they will refund them as quickly as they took them, whereas with some banks you are made to wait quite a while.

I find the online and telephone banking systems extremely easy to use.

They seem to very good at reeling you an getting you to take loans and overdrafts I find, but in a way that you feel like they are doing it to help you (ah, how naive I was!)

When I was about 18 I was offered an overdraft as I had been very good with my account. By aged 19 my overdraft was at £2,900 which (in my 19 year old head) I thought was great. I hastly went out and blew it!

A few months later I received a call offering me a loan to consolidate the overdraft which I took.

At the time I thought it all was great and my attitude was "way hey, money!" but now I am a little older I do look back and think that perhaps, even though I did have a good history with them, that they should have perhaps been a little hesitent at lending someone so young such a large amount but I suppose that is how they make their money. It's quite clever really as now I have a loan with them for quite a large amount.

They have only ever SERIOUSLY upset me once in the 9 years I have been with them, and I phoned up the complaints department to complain and they rectified the issue. The next week I received a letter of apology and a bunch of flowers, which I thought was excellent customer service

All in all a very good bank but (intentional or not) are very good at enticing you into borrowing at quite a young age, therefore ensuring you remain a customer in the coming years. Obviously it was my choice to take out the credit but all I can say is "child in sweet shop" lol

Summary: Worth a look
