NatWest: Much better than Halifax! (Natwest Bank)

Advantages: Classy banks, friendly staff, don't get hassled

Disadvantages: Queues at busy times

My wife and I have current accounts with both Natwest and Halifax and regularly use both banks, our local branches being in Crystal peaks in Sheffield.

NatWest's branch always seems to be the classier of the two - it's much nicer decorated inside with marble counter surfaces compared to Halfax's rather poorer wood effects everywhere. Halifax's branch seems to be better lit, but just not as welcoming as NatWest... NatWest feels warm whereas Halifax gives off a colder feeling.

The staff at NatWest also seem like a friendly bunch, always welcoming you into the branch with a smile and quick to answer any questions. In comparison, the Halifax staff seem to be a little grumpy and aren't as welcoming.

But for me, the best thing about NatWest is their service. I can pay a cheque in, request a balance or make a withdrawal without the sales pitch that I get in Halifax. NatWest will quite happily serve me and wish me a nice day, whereas Halifax will try to sell me every product under the sun. Yes, I have a mortgage! Yes, I have a credit card! Yes, I have a savings account! I'm happy with them all, so just take my money and stop hassling me!

I much prefer banking at NatWest - especially now that they're open longer hours on a Saturday!

Summary: My preferred bank
