Advantages: straightforward banking, nice surroundings & pleasant staff plus good online sysyem

Disadvantages: none for me - but wait til I'm rich?

My daughters & I have been with the Halifax for donkeys years now & we found them OK but not brilliant &, to be honest I don't think they helped my older daughter as much as they could when she was a student. Going to the Halifax was never a pleasure as there always seem to be queues at all times of day & whichever branch we go to. The staff are always polite but not over-friendly & sometimes seem to be much more interested in selling you their latest promotions.

The TV ads have been driving me crazy for a couple of years now - OUR money going into these stupid productions - so I decided to open a basic current account with another bank mainly because I was so miffed.

Our local Nat West is smart, there's plenty of room either to queue or to write cheques/ do paperwork etc, it's light & airy & the staff are very friendly but not pushy - just efficient which is all I ask.

Opening the account was straightfoward enough & when everything arrived in a package it included bank statement folders & leaflets explaining their different home & business accounts, investments, ISAs etc. I haven't been bombarded with 'junk' post or telephone calls & that's just how I like it.

My debit card arrived, as promised, within 5 days & as I'd received my PIN number almost straightaway I was ready to go - all I need now is loads of money lol!

My statements arrive on the nail & I'm happy with Nat West so may consider closing my Halifax accounts at some stage as interest rates seem to be much the same at the moment & life is too short to queue & put up with staff who don't seem particularly interested in their customers.

I'm giving an opinion on my experience with Nat West having banked with them for 8 months, albeit a basic current account. When I win the lottery & decide to invest I may well have a different experience to tell you about so will keep you posted!

The online system is easy enough to use - I'm not brilliant on the computer but I'm sure if I can manage my account then anyone can lol.

For straightforward, no-hassle, simple banking without the sales pitch but with friendly staff I'd recommend this bank.

Summary: good enough for my needs
