Advantages: Good customer service.

Disadvantages: Not great bank cards.

I was a member of National Westminster banks since I was very young and had a child's account. As I grew older this progressed into an adult's account. Once I had had my first full time job for a couple of years I went into the branch and asked for an upgrade from a solo bank card (which I found quite restrictive in it's use as not many places would accept it) to a switch card, the current account card that natwest use that is more widely acceptable. Even though my take home was 1500 a month they said no. I was so frustrated and no longer felt that I owed them any loyalty so went and opened a lloydstsb account and they instantly gave me a visa card. I still kept my natwest account open and use it for small things, just not my main bank account expenditure. Since I have been using natwest and still use them this is the one downside I have come across. There are many other plus points to natwest.

I have found the customer service at natwest very helpful. I have been into the branch many a time with queries, and I have used the phone banking to discuss complex matters with customer operators and have always eventually been given a satisfactory response. The first person you speak to may not know the answer, but they can always find you someone who does. Another great thing about the phone service is that you are never kept on hold for more than a couple of minutes. There are times when I have phoned other banking helplines and have been kept on hold for ages and ages.

Another plus point about natwest as a bank is that their online banking service is fantastic. It is easy to use, and easy to navigate your way around and understand. It has tons of services you can do online, like applying for new accounts etc. The online banking is super secure as they send you a card reader and anytime you want to do something you have to pop your card in the reader which generates a code which you have to type in. Its an extra way of making sure no one else can get hold of your money!
