Advantages: they are everywhere

Disadvantages: the student account did not live up to its reputation

Last year I opened a student bank account with them because if you do so you can get a free rail card for the next 5 years! That's saving something like 120 pounds!!! That alone is 100% worth going with them. The added reasons were that they are very well known and easily accessible in pretty much everywhere in England.

As I applied very late for Uni I was concerned about my loan taking so long or a something going wrong with there not being enough time to check up to confirm I was actually at Uni. But to my relief everything was fine.

This was until my rail card - which is the reason I joined - did not turn up. It took me call after call to get through to them. Going to the local Natwest meant nothing because I needed to go to the one where my sort code was addressed to. The helpline was literally no help at all and actually purely seemed annoyed that I was calling!

After 3 months and it not turning up, I went to my local branch (I would of done so earlier but was 400 miles away, and needed the card to get home!) they said that I was mean to be sent a pack containing everything I needed to know about the rail card and how to apply. I did not get his. As a result they told me I have missed the dead line and would not be ably to qualify for one!

Ok I was very angry at first but they kindly offered to reimburse me with £120 which I thanked them for.

Summary: they are ok but as with all banks they just love YOUR money
