I have been a Natwest customer since I was 6 years old and although I have tried other banks, I still think Natwest offer the best service.
Since they were taken over by RBS they have certainly have become focussed with the up selling of accounts and that is what the staff bonus's are based on. However the customer service has also improved, getting hold of them on the phone is quick, internet banking is much better than some other banks and the instore staff are polite and helpful.
The only annoyance I have with them is charging excessively for going overdrawn a few times when I was not expecting them to. However its fair to say every bank does this and I would rather this than the European way of charging customers to have an account in the first place.
I did try to change to A&L.... after 2 months of A&L I soon moved everything back to Natwest
Summary: A good bank, does what banks should do and well
