Paypal is an online payment method which allows you to send money to friends or pay for shopping online. Paypal is also a bank based in Luxembourg
HISTORY
Paypal is the result of a merger which occured when Confinity and X.com merged back in March 2000. In October 2002, Paypal was aquired by eBay in a deal worth around $1.5 billion! Alot of cash! Paypal was previously used for payments by around 55% of eBay users prior to this but with the closure of other payment websites Paypal has taken over all online payment methods accepted over eBay.

SECURITY
With paypal containing your bank details or dredit card details it has become the interest of internet hackers which will try and get you to send them your username and password with you even knowing! This is called a phishing scam of which you can read about on my website. www.freewebs.com/scamsexposed/
When on the site look at the scam menu and look at Online scams and click the phishing scams (Please note the site is under maintenance) By reading this you can learn what phishing is and how to protect yourself against been conned! HOWEVER, back to paypal. Paypal have introduced substantial anti-phishing resources for identifying phishing scams.

Paypal have also introduced the optional Security Key. This is a device which when you are at the log in stage you enter your username and password and then press a button on the security key and it generates a random 6 digit number which will be your security code for logging in. This prevents accounts from been accessed by unwanted people i.i third parties. With this opyion when you log in you must have the security key or log in will fail!

CUSTOMER SERVICE
From my past experiences with paypal, i feel the customer service provided is very bad. I had my account closed a few months back for a reason I am still unsure about and after numberous phone calls to see what the problem was i was still none the wiser. The customer serives operatives are rude and sometimes struggle to understand proper english as they are based in Luxembourg. Contact by email is still no good as when you email them all you get is a quote from the FAQ's. When contacting a customer service operative direct by email it takes around 7 days for a reply in which is very bad.

THE INS AND OUTS
Paypal is used nowadays for many means of online payments, whether its paying mates money back, paying for the groceries online or paying for a shopping spree online! Paypal is now built into alot of websites so that an email isnt required to be entered as it takes you straight to a payment screen which requires a log in and a confirmation that you wish to send the funds.

Paypal charge fee's on money recieved online. they charge a percentage of the money sent over which is a pain but still they have to make money somewere down the line to fund for this site.

I feel paypal is a good website, easy to use and very secure. Its a shame that customer service isnt as good as the webiste but overall i would recommend this to customers.
