Advantages: O.K when used in conjunction with ebay!!

Disadvantages: They will screw you over and take your money!!!!

I used paypal for nearly four years in conjunction with ebay and I had absolutely no problems at all. That was until last week. I sold an item to someone on a forum for gaming accounts and we agreed the price of £150 for my game account. He sent me the money through paypal and I recieved it, I transferred it straight to my bank account because I do not like money being in paypal for long periods of time. Everything seemed fine so I gave him the information he needed and we parted company. I checked my ebay 2 days later to see in my transfer had completed yet to find that this person has filed a dispute against me saying that the money coming out of his paypal was unverified and that I basically hacked his account and stole it. They held and reversed the money which has now put me into -£16 on my paypal account. I tried to resolve the situation (as they needed my response within a week otherwise the money is automatically refunded) but everytime i tried to do so a page came up saying "sorry, an error has occured", I know, what a great time for this to happen. This was at about 23:00 and paypal phone lines are shut between 22:00 and 6:00 mid-week so I was stuck worrying. I emailed paypal the situation saying I have proof of the purchase in the form of screenshots and msn conversations. Read my emails the next day to find out that paypal had still not responded. I rang them and the phone service is disgusting, was on the phone at least 45mins to an automated service before I eventually could speak to an actual person. She found my email and forwarded it as my response to the dispute and now I have to wait upto 30days to see if I will ever see this money again. Judging by these reviews it is more than likely that he will be refunded the money, I will have to pay paypal the £16 and he also gets to keep my gaming account. I will never use paypal again after this, I am moving out very soon and that £150 was supposed to go towards a deposit. It looks like they won't even bother asking me for the proof I have, even though I stated I had it in the email I sent them. I find paypal great when using in conjunction with ebay, but as soon as you stray and use it independently or through another website this is where you should be very cautious. At best I wouldn't use paypal at all...the horror stories I have heard have been a million times worse than mine and I can't imagine what it would be like to be £12,000 down, losing a partner and a home all because of paypal....these reviews should say it all. After this dispute has been settled I will be changing my bank details and closing my paypal account. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Summary: Personally, I would tell you to never use paypal. Use cheques, it takes longer, but its safer!!!
