Advantages: Easy to use. Offers protection to buyers.

Disadvantages: High fees.

PayPal is convenient and easy to use. It is easy to use the website to send and receive money. It is a safe way of transferring money and it means you haven't got to give out any bank account details to other people. It is easy to view your account balance and recent transactions.

I like that it is easy to pay for Ebay items through the site and request money from other people. There is also protection for users and you can open a dispute if you have paid for something which you have not received.

There are more reasons why I don't like PayPal than do like them. The main two are the fees and the customer service.

I don't like the fees. You have to pay a percentage on money you receive from other peoples bank accounts the percentage is between 1.4% - 3.4% plus 20p. There is also a fee if you withdraw less than £50 from your paypal account to your bank account. The time when I find the fees worse is when I have already had to pay Ebay fees for an item I have sold and then further fees to receive my money for the item.

Another thing I don't like is the customer service. I think it is rubbish. I spent a lot of time and money phoning them before they resolved my account problems and they would only do that after I had sent a copy of my ID to them. They took weeks to resolve my problem.

PayPal now offer a top up card. You use it like a debit card to make withdrawals from your PayPal account and you can use it wherever you see the Visa logo. There is an initial charge of £4.95 for the card. There are other fees. To withdraw money from a ATM it costs £2. To top up the card costs £1.

Summary: Pay for your own money.

It doesn't always protect buyers either. It works in theory but when I opened a dispute I only received back a small amount of what I had paid because the person I'd paid had withdrawn the rest of the money. I agree with everything you've said, the fees are rediculous.
