Advantages: Easy to use, simple!
Disadvantages: Ebay!
PayPal is one of the biggest online payment services currently available today. PayPal has been around since the early noughties and is almost always the first online payment service you hear of when you start using the net. This is mainly due to their "relationship" with EBay as well as being a method of payment on many online shops.
PayPal charge a fee for every transaction you make, 3.4% plus 20p for all personal users. Although PayPal is one of the most recognised online payment methods it also has a lot of criticism lobbied at its service.
Distance selling on the internet is a relatively new concept with new users every day; this can lead to many problems. This is especially true on online auction sites like EBay where a lot of personal rather than business sales occur, however I have heard a lot of stories where people have had problems and PayPal are not interested in helping.
I believe PayPal offer a good service at a relatively good price they do not offer the best service they could. I know of many people who have found it difficult to get help from their telephone service and the procedures can sometimes be dubious. I also think it is wrong you have to offer PayPal as an option for every EBay sale.
PayPal are currently only surviving due to their "relationship" with EBay. I think if EBay ever lost its appeal PayPal would quickly lose it few remaining customers (me included!)
Summary: How long left?

- 27/01/09 I don't really like paypal either, I think the prices are far too high. |

- 27/01/09 Criticism you hear most often is that they will take back payments to sellers(on eBay) even if the buyer is just pulling a fast one. This hasn't happened to me though. |
