Advantages: Easy to send/receive money
Disadvantages: Leans heavily to the buyer!!
I have used Paypal for about 12 years. Well before Ebay came along and bought the company out outright. It is a portal that allows you to connect your bank card/account to a payment system, and allow you to receive/send money to anybody in the world.
The idea is fantastic and has really helped people transfer money, and overcome local currency issues worldwide. In return Paypal take a cut of the money. So far. So good.
However Paypal is now becoming to be known more by Ebay 'Sellers' as the 'Buyers Friend'. The reason being that if you have sold items and can't provide proof of receipt, then the buyer gets their money back, often leaving the Seller out of pocket. This has meant that many Sellers now insist that if they sell items, that they insist on Recorded or International Signed For. If they don't, the 'scammers' out there will be looking to rip you off at the earliest opportunity!!
If you are a buyer you are really well protected though, and Paypal, is very much focused on them. However if you are a Seller and have a problem you have to pay a national rate number to ring them and it will not be answered here in the UK. I have then found on the number of occasions I have called them, myself banging me head against a brick wall, trying to get myself heard. If the computer says, NO, then the answer is NO.
I have started to use other online checkout facilities now. None are perfect, and some actually put Paypal in a good light. However I still find Paypal a 'Buyers Friend'.....................Sellers Beware!!!
Summary: A very frustrating company to deal with!!
