Advantages: Handy - they have internet and telephoning banking and a lot of branches
Disadvantages: Constantly have to watch for charges
I have been with this bank for almost 20 years now. I started off with a cash club account when I was seven years old. You can withdraw up to £10 a week without permission from your parent or guardian. I felt very grown up having my own account so it is definitely a good thing for children to have their own account which they can have access to.
When I turned 11 the account changed to one suitable for slightly older children.
When I turned 18 was when the real trouble started though. I was earning my own money from a full time job at this point and they gave me a cheque book and a switch card for the first time. Yes I suppose I was not to good with money at this point but they did not help matters. I was given a free £100 overdraft limit to begin with and it was stated in a letter to me. I used my switch a lot but knew I had an overdraft to cover me, when I checked my bank the following week they had added a huge amount of charges for going into apparently an "unauthorised" overdraft. I spent many of my lunch breaks down at my bank trying to sort this out in the end my mum had to get involved and only then did they admit they were in the wrong, so they refunded me all my charges.
I did stay with them after this though, I suppose I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of changing banks and when I needed a loan a couple of years later they were more than happy to help, but watch out that they don't charge you insurance as it really bumps up the cost.
I have paid of the loan now and I am still with them now and I have had no problems in 8 years and counting. Maybe it was just a one off but I have heard many other people complaining too.
They also have telephone and internet banking which seem very secure, I have not had any problems yet, and it is so much easier doing it this way.
Summary: This is a good bank but just be careful
