Advantages: I suppose it's still a good bank to bank with...

Disadvantages: ...But it definitely has customer service issues.

I've been with the Royal Bank of Scotland for a year now, on a student account. It seemed great at first, but I've had a few problems lately. For instance;
- I moved, and informed them of my new address in the branch. They said it had gone on the system, and everything was fine. I even got a couple of statements sent to my new address. They then stopped, although I didn't realise it - until I forgot my PIN and rang up to get a new one sent to me. That's a whole other story, but basically, they sent details to my OLD address - and then told me I couldn't change the details on the phone, I had to go into a branch (despite the fact I couldn't access one at the time, and also despite the fact that I'd already changed my address with them months ago.)
- The PIN thing. Apparently, you now need to set up telephone banking in order to get your PIN re-sent to you. If you don't want it? Tough.

So, yeah...I haven't had a very good experience with them. In addition to my above complaints, I never received the £100 I was promised in opening my account, despite fulfilling their criteria to receive it. When I complained, I was told it was too late to receive the money, and they could do nothing. I was never informed there was a deadline, and was never kept up to date with anything.

Summary: All depends on the individual experiences, I've found.
