Advantages: good interest
Disadvantages: overly helpful staff
I decided to open a bank account last year after I applied for my college bursary and found out I'd need an account for it to be paid into. I had a good look around all the banks to find the best one,but while most ignored me, the Royal Bank of Scotland were friendly and helpful. They were also my parents bank so I didn't need to give information like my address again as they just got it all from their computers. The staff were really competent and my account was finalised very quickly.I had not got a national insurance number but instead of waiting and sending a letter out the bank phoned me and I confirmed that in fact I didnt have a NI number because the people that send them are too dumb ass to send them and are rude to me everytime I try to get one. When I lost my cashline card the bank were helpful, and sent a replacement card out the next day. My experience with the bank is overall very good though after a while when I went to pay in cheques they would ask me if I wanted a credit card.Of course as I was only 16 at the time I had to explain this and then they would apologise.I know they were just trying to be helpful but after the third time it happened I got a bit fed up of it. They also kept asking me to open an ISA and in the end I agreed just to shut them up,although it has turned out fairly well as I get a good interest rate. My other quibble with the bank is that it seems to be understaffed and I find it takes up to fifteen minutes standing in the queue to see anyone. I would recommend the bank if you want helpful staff who want to help you do the best you can with your money.

- 27/06/02 very good opinion. i've just opened an account with the rbs myself and they even went so far as to call me a few weeks later to make sure i was happy with everything. better than alliance and leicester anyway. |

- 31/05/02 I don't bank with them but I have my mortgage with them. The staff in the mortgage centre are nice but on the odd occasion that I have gone into the branch I did not find them to be as nice and helpful as those at my own bank. It is nice that you find them helpful though as that is so important when you trust them to look after your money isn't it! :0) |
