I have a current account with santander and have found them fine.
Why I chose their account- I went on a site that compares interest rates and found santander to be the best. I was 16 when I opened an account with them s i chose their 16-18 current account. It was a simple account I could pay in however much I wanted each month and also withdraw however much i wanted with no change to my interest. There is also a branch within walking distance of my house.
On-line- I do most of my banking on-line and santander is great for this purpose. The only thing that is a bit annoying is that you have a registration number which is about 9 digits that you need to know but I have just saved this in my phone. You then need a username and password which you can pick. if you are using a computer that you don't normally use then it will ask you a security question like what is your mothers maiden name. When you log in it is easy to view recent activity on your account and if you have more than one account with them you can easily switch between the two.
Customer service- I have rang santander on a few occasions and have found them to be helpful, they have also known the answer to what I was asking. The only problem is I think their call centres are abroad and its sometimes hard to understand what someone with a foreign accent is saying especially o the phone so I have had to ask them to keep repeating themselves. When I have been into one of their branches I have always found the staff to be helpful and polite.
Ease of use- Santander is regularly in contact with me to tell me about changes to their policies which effect me, they usually contact me by letters in the post but I also get the odd email. They also used to send me a paper bank statement each month but I have been able to stop this and I now receive it by email which is a lot better. This has been my first proper bank account and I have found them to be great and easy to use.
I would recommend sanander to most people, they are also now giving great rewards to new customers so they are worth checking out.
