Advantages: Good rate of interest
Disadvantages: Slow site - no people contact
Smile was reccomended to me as an environmetally sound bank that gave a good rate of interest. I got through to the web site and found it extremely slow with far too many images that took ages to load. Eventually I filled in all the information, persevering through the slow and ricky navigation of thier site becasue of the reccomendation. About 2 weeks later I receieved a letter from Smile saying that I was not allowed to hold an account with them because I had a 'bad credit rating'. As someone who has never been overdrawn or in debt I resent this allegation. I have always prided myself on not using credit. Smile told me that I could pay a few quid to a credit check agency to find out why I had been refused the account, but by this time I was so angry that the thought of spending money to clear my clean name was too much. I wrote to Smile and thier response was a standard form letter thanking me for my comments. I was not happy with the way I was treated and would not reccomened Smile to anyone.

- 24/12/02 If you have not had credit before that may be why you were turned down. Not sure how you are supposed to get credit if that is the attitude though, chicken and egg scenario........ |

- 16/05/01 This has happened to a lot of people that I know who have tried to open an account with Smile. They have have a good credit rating elsewhere, but as soon as they hit Smile - declined. |
