Advantages: Very good interest rate

Disadvantages: Can be slow connecting

The main attraction with the Smile current account has to be the interest rate - over 4% for an account with a chequebook is pretty impressive. You get a better rate with Egg, but no cheque book - it all depends what you want from an account.
The Smile account also gives you a debit card, which you can use for transactions at Link machines. You can pay in by post (they send you all the pre-paid envelopes) or by going in to the Post Office.
There's even a fee-free £500 overdraft, which is pretty good.

It seems to be reasonably secure - there are several fields you have to complete each time (different personal information every time as well) and you cannot actually use the banking facilities if you try to gain access from behind a firewall (e.g. from the office, for many of us). So all of that is quite reassuring.
I have had problems printing out statements - but maybe that's the way my PC is set up? - and it can be rather slow at times, but usually you only need to be logged on a couple of minutes to check whatever you need to.

And the advert IS very catchy?
