I have had my Virgin ISA for around 10 months and cant really fault the product or their service. The fund has low charges (1% annual management fees, no other charges for entry/exit fees etc.) and fairly closely follows the FTSE All-Share index. You can pay an initial lump sum and leave it, or as I do, pay a fixed amount monthly, with the option to top up using debit card or cheque always available. Any time I have done this, units are purchased promptly with the new money, as they are with the regular direct debit payments.
The service they provide on the phone is excellent, with knowledgeable and friendly staff on their main number, with a freephone number for a balance check a real time saver. Any requests I have made have been correctly processed, though I do find that every time you speak with them, you seem to get a letter confirming any details you have discussed. They also operate a website to allow 24/7 access to your details, and although it can be quite awkward to find things, its all there once you get used to looking for it.
The online applications process was simple, with an initial payment option by debit card/direct debit/cheque, and all paperwork was sent out promptly.
For those looking for a safe low cost ISA, this may be the one for you.
I have had my Virgin Maxi ISA for about a year now, I think the ISA itself was very easy to set up, just log onto the virgin-direct.co.uk web sit, allow them to ask you questions to establish which investment is best for you and hey presto. If you have any questions on the ISA the customer services are extremely good. To keep track of the value of your ISA, you can set up a password which will alow you to call a free phone number, quoting certain access codes to your ISA and you get an up to date valuation on the spot. Very simple. The newest addition to the ISA is that you can track it online. I do my banking online with Barclays and Nationwide and thought that their online services were quite good until I used the Virgin ISA online. The userability is excellent and is very professionally done. I would recomend anyone thinking about taking out a investment to consider Virgin. Their service is second to none and you can always keep on top of you investments and manage them how you want, and not how someone dictates.
I transferred to the Virgin Maxi ISA when I could no longer invest in the PEP I had held for 2 years. The rate of growth has been excellent over an 18 month period. Due to some financial reversals, I had to make a withdrawal from the ISA account. The telephone staff are polite, helpful and the paperwork and subsequent cheque arrived promptly. They are about to launch an online service for checking investments and requesting withdrawals, making transfers in etc. In the meantime it is possible to fax a request for a withdrawal provided that the fax contains the security information requested when you phone. I have no plans to move my ISA elswhere at the moment. I am very happy with the Virgin Direct service
