Where do i begin? I started off sorting a mortgage off with Barclays where I was told I had a pre-approved limit, thus there was no question as to whether I would get the amount I asked for. Woolwich though, thought different. Their customer service is shoddy to say the least, I had to call them in order to find out a problem had been incurred a ... Read the complete review

The Woolwich, as of 29th January 2007, charges £10 to write out a building society cheque for you when you want to pay a bill. Personally I think this is outrageous, why should I have to pay to spend my own money. If I have a bill to pay for £75 I have to spend £85. We all know that Barclays make millions out of unfair charges but £10 a cheque is ... Read the complete review

We remortgaged with the Woolwich after being avised so to do by a person that we believed (at the time) was a good IFA. This was nearly 5 years ago. After almost a year, we hit the first financial problems that we'd ever had, and quickly found out just what a mistake we'd made. The staff at the Woolwich were not only completely ... I have recently changed lender from the Halifax to the Woolwich. The Woolwich looked good, no fees, low payments etc, compared to higher rates at the Halifax. But let me tell you saving money isn't everything especially when you realise your not. My first payment was due on the 16th December and I was advised of this is ... Read the complete review

Definately the worst - Advantages: Part of Barclays group - Disadvantages: Branch staff & managers have no authority, If you ask staff anything, they have to phone head office to check, You can never speak to a real person when you phone Woolwich for help

My sister in law says she wouldn't touch the Woolwich with a barge pole. Of course, she said this AFTER we had transferred our mortgage and bank accounts to them as part of the Open Plan Offset scheme. But so far, I wouldn't agree with her. We were formerly with both First Direct and Barclays. Barclays were fine, First Direct ... Read the complete review

Im a member with the woolwich ,unfortunately, since 1993 and received good service at branch level until Barclays took over. Now its a fiasco.I have had funds taken from accounts without my knowledge by the woolwich themselves only to reappear magically when I contacted.I have had them charging me for mistakes they made again to magically reappear ... I have had an account with the Woolwich for all of my 27 years, my Grandmother having opened an account for me when I was born. Throughout that time I have tried and tested many of their accounts and feel suitably qualified to comment. My overall opinion of the Woolwich is that it is a bank that has just got too big for its boots. ... Read the complete review

I have many dealings with all the banks and building societies in the job I do. I have never come across a more inefficient building society that The Woolwich. They take longer than any other Bank of Building Society to set up Direct Debits, frequently rejecting them when they are due as the direct debit is not yet in place. This is despite the ... I know a lot of people have quite a high opinion of The Woolwich as the saying goes, "Wer'e with The Woolwich," but I have had a few bad experiences with them. My mum and I opened a Prime Gold account about 5 years ago and that was brilliant for me, at the time I was still in school and the savings rate was good, so all of my pennies that ... I went to the Woolwich about 12 years ago after becoming dissatisfied with Lloyds. I thought that with their head office just a couple of miles up the road and millions of branches locally they'd be ideal. How wrong! I've never been that good with money, in fact the only time I've not had an overdraft was when I was out of work ... Read the complete review

I have had a Woolwich account for as long as I can remember, and just over a year ago upgraded to the Open Plan Account. This provides 24 hour on-line banking allowing you to check your balance, make bill payments and transfer money between accounts. The system has recently been to allow all payments to be seen, together with who they have been ... Read the complete review

I have been acustomer with the Woolwich for about 5 years changing my current account into the all new open plan about a year ago. I then heard about the merger between Barclays and The Woolwich and I thought time to move having never been a fan of Barclays. I opened an account with Nationwide but before I could get the account up and ... Read the complete review
