Question: How do you make £1 into £1000+

Answer: Be Yorkshire Bank and put charges on a £1 overdraft.

Yes, it takes less than 4 weeks to turn £1 into £980 + £20 administration charge by their own solicitors.

I had an overdraft facility which they withdrew without warning because I didn't make enough use of it.

I went £1 into the red, thinking well I've got an overdraft facility - no big deal.

Only to find that I started receiving nice letters from Yorkshire Bank charging me £32 for each letter.

I suddenly got a letter stating that I would be charged £4 a day + 29%APR interest charged on a daily basis and a £17.50 charge for each letter each day letting me know how much they were charging me.

I went into the branch and got a torrent of abuse from the staff telling me that this is how they make their money and if I didn't want to be charged I had better clear the charges and £1 overdraft immediately.

I walked out and got an account at Smile.co.uk, in the meantime Yorkshire bank started proceeding which continued until I wrote a letter to their solicitor telling them the way that I was treated.

They sent letter to me telling me that they had halted proceeding until they had received information of what happened in the branch.

I had a witness to the abuse but the manager of the branch wrote me a letter stating that I had not been in and had ignored letters from his branch staff.

At the present moment everything is at a stalemate. Yorkshire bank are still threatening me, their own solicitors have already said that they are not willing to proceed because I have witnesses to the abuse and the fact that I cancelled all my direct debits at that time but they didn't cancel any of them to get more charges onto the account.

I would not give this bank the time of day and would advise anyone thinking about opening an account with this bank to think not tw
ice but several times before they open an account.

They treat you like something that they would scrape off the sole of their shoe. They think PROFIT PROFIT PROFIT and to hell with the customer.

I can think of several things that I could say about this company but I would be banned from posting if I did.

Update....

Since then I have found that a member of staff at the Branch that I banked at when they finally cancelled all my direct debits (6 weeks after I requested them to) informed the companies that I was deceased.

I have spent several weeks trying to prove to several companies that I still alive. I only found out when my internet connection and phone were disconnected. Followed shortly by the HP company for my car trying to collect it and finding my credit card had also been cancelled due to my death.

So far I have not been able to get an apology, all that I have had is a letter accusing me of lying and denying that I had ever been in their branch even though I have witnesses to being in there.

I was also informed that they were informed by a member of my family that I was dead - this is a complete fabrication as none of my family have ever been in contact with them.

My original opinion of the company has not and will not change. The staff are still abusive, the charges are rediculous, the management is non-existant, the Bank is only out to charge as much as they can to their customers and YORKSHIRE BANK are guilty of THEFT.

I urge all people that are thinking of using this bank to avoid them at all costs.

I got £71 fees for a £3 overdraft, which led me to screaming profusely at the accounts manager for a good 10 minutes. I then closed my account and hurled yet more constructive abuse.

I only earned £20 a week then.

I'm currently about to join NatWest when my new job starts, but yes.. I can fully relate to that story.

YORKSHIRE BANK ARE EVIL.

A worrying opinion as I will surely be going into battelt with them over some withdrawls using my mother stolen bank card when she was in Majorca. The transaction date appears to be after the card was reported as stolen! They have taken the money from the account and she will have to wait weeks for them to sort it.
Barclays is a different story - already sorted in a week.

I originally though about taking action against them but after much though and a look at the cost (I am unable to use no-win no-fee as it is not covered under the scheme) I have decided to walk away and forget I ever had the misfortune to deal with this company.

My current bank, are the total opposite and bend over backwards to help and keep you informed of everything that is going on with the account.
