Yorkshire Building SocietyNewest Review: ... the details of their savings products without always keeping their customers informed. The regular saver deposit account I first joined operated for a three year fixed-term only; at the end of this time the account arbitrarily changed to one into which my monthly direct debist were still directed as before, only this package paid lower rates of interest. Although I was aware of the three-year term of my original account, the changeover to the new account in my name was made without my being notified at the time, which I thought was a bit odd as I had to phone my nearest branch to find out what had happened to my account. Similarly the typ... more |

I've been a small-scale saver with the Yorkshire Building Society for about 10 years. My experience has been that they're a pretty average organization in terms of the products and savings rates they offer - they're not a great deal better, but certainly no worse than many of their high street competitors. Their internet banking is trouble-free to use and their call-centre staff - if not terribly knowledgable about the YBSs' products - always appear to try to help. In my experience the YBS do have a tendency to change the details of their savings products without always keeping their customers informed. The regular saver deposit account I first joined ... I recently signed up online for a new internet saver account with the Yorkshire after becoming annoyed at my current building society interest rate. The Yorkshire Building Society pays currently 2.08% before tax on their monthly interest savings rate for the internet- good at the present time - my 90 day notice account is only 0.5% higher! The advantages this account has over others is that interest is paid monthly allowing me to see the amount I am earning every month, a lot of other providers give interest annually which I was not interested (pardon the pun!) in. The interest rate is variable but doesn't include a bonus like many accounts to suck you in and after a ... Read the complete review

Back in December 2007 I was hunting for a mortgage as one of my friends was moving abroad and wanted to sell his house on the cheap, as we weren't actively looking to buy a house at the time, we had little by way of deposit and therefore most banks and building societies wouldn't look twice at us and if they did, they wanted to add on huge fees and charge extortionate rates. When I spoke to YBS, that all changed. For the first time in my mortgage hunt, I felt valued as a potential customer. I had a 1 to 1 meeting with a mortgage advisor who explained all the pro's and con's of taking their 100% mortgage, including the risk of negative equity in a turbulent ... Read the complete review

I have just opened an account with the Yorkshire Building Society. I didn't want to, but we eventually had little or no alternative. Sounds odd to you? Let me tell you our story. As most of you know Dave and I have recently purchased a house in Llandudno and my parents have moved in with us. They occupy the ground floor of the house and Dave and I have the remaining two floors. It was decided that they would pay an amount towards the costs of running the house each week and we would deal with all the bills and matters of general household management. Stick with me this will become relevant in a minute. Back in the Midlands my parents kept what ... Read the complete review
