Advantages: Affordable opening balance, easy access, some money goes to charities

Disadvantages: None

This is a really good instant access account which we opened when our daughter was born with just £10 (which you have to keep in as a minimum balance).

It pays interest twice a year at the end of June and December which is quite good because they get interest on their interest.

A really good thing about this account is it supports the NSPCC/Children 1st, in that the Yorkshire pays £1 to the charity for every account opened and they also pay 10% of the total gross interest paid to young savers to the charity.

They can withdraw up to £500 (we'd be lucky) in cash, without notice.

Make sure that you complete a R85 form so that they get paid the interest without deduction of tax.

A good thing with this account is you can use it now at Britannia Building Societies too! (which is quite good because there are more of these than Yorkshire Building Societies).

We applied by post by ringing 0845 1 200 100 for an application form and we received her passbook back within a week of returning the application, which was pretty good service.
