Sainsbury's Party Disposable BBQ
by mouldysandwich
I bought these disposable BBQ's for a festival, but tried them out beforehand to make sure that they lit up, and to see how long they lasted, or how well they cooked my desired food.
*TIME TO WARM UP*
The BBQ is generally very easy to light, because the coals are soaked in a lighter-fluid type substance. Along with this, ... the fire tends to spread across the coals quite quickly, also. It takes only a few minutes for the flames to die down, and the heat is instantly felt coming off of the BBQ, which is nice considering that it is quite a small object.
*COOKING ABILITY/APPEARANCE*
When using the BBQ to cook, the disposable BBQ is very effective, and cooks food at an efficient rate, but not too fast that it would leave parts of the food uncooked and inedible. The BBQ also has a handy mesh-like cover over the coals where you can place your food, which allows a safe distance from the heat, so that you don't have to use a separate device to keep your food at a distance.
*SIZING*
The size of the disposable BBQ is a little bigger than an A4 sheet of paper, which is ideal for holding up to 6 burgers side by side, or around 12 sausages, leaving room for them to be turned around.
*HEAT DURABILITY*
When using this product, I found that the heat lasts longer than the time it takes you to actually cook your BBQ food, which is always nice because you can then use the BBQ to give off heat if the weather isn't so nice.
*DISPOSING OF THE BBQ*
Thankfully, the BBQ is very easy to dispose of, as the coals turn to ashes, and although the base of the BBQ is made of aluminium to keep in heat while using the BBQ, this is not so overpowering that you can't touch the BBQ when disposing of it, which is a nice feature because you are not forced to leave the BBQ for hours to cool down.
*OVERALL*
Overall, I think this BBQ was a great buy for it being so cheap (around £5 maximum), and it is very effective considering the size of it! Read the complete review |

Bar-be-quick Disposable Barbecue
by l500589
Summer has been a bit of a washout so far, but amazingly it was a lovely sunny day in Staffordshire over the Bank Holiday weekend for a change, especially on the Saturday. I spent most of the day in the garden, mowing and weeding and generally trying to get it looking a bit more under control. During the afternoon I walked over to my ... local DIY store to buy some more weed killer, and noticed they had disposable barbecues for sale at 2 for £4 so decided in a blink of an eye that a BBQ was on the cards for tea that night.
The disposable BBQ's that I purchased were called 'Bar Be Quick' which was a brand that I had not heard of before, let alone tried out.
As always with my instantaneous decision making there was a little flaw in plan when I got home and announced my intentions to my wife. She had meanwhile made plans for us to have a take-away at our house with her brother and his partner. However after a quick call they were happy to still come around to our house for a BBQ instead, and so my plan was back on, and I was pleased that there had been an offer on and that I had ended up with 2 BBQ's, as one would have been too small to cook for 4 people on.
The 'Bar Be Quick' disposable BBQ comes wrapped up in cellophane, with a paper top cover containing some important safety advice and some general user instructions which is handy for anyone using it for the first time. The rough dimensions of the BBQ are: 30cm x 22cm.
The BBQ itself is basically a foil tray with a wire mesh at the top. Under the wire mesh there is a reasonable amount of charcoal, and also a flammable piece of card, which is used to accelerate the lighting process, and get the coals burning well. It is simply just a case of lighting the piece of card using a match or a lighter, and then leaving it for a few minutes whilst the coals heat up.
I placed my both of my disposable BBQ's onto a little stack of spare bricks that I have in the corner of my garden that gets the late sun. It is worth pointing out that the foil tray gets very hot, and so consideration to the surface that you place it on is important - for example if you were to just place it on the grass, it would burn the grass, and likewise if you put it onto plastic garden furniture it would melt the plastic.
The Bar Be Quick disposable BBQ's are quite small, but they are fine for cooking food for 1 or 2 people on. They heat up very quickly, and last for over an hour before they start to cool down again, so it is best to have everything prepared before lighting them. The heat is fairly evenly spread, but the centre of the barbecue tends to be the hottest area as you might expect. The fumes are very minimal, just a few flames and fumes when it is first started up, but after that there are no real fumes other than the fumes from the food cooking.
I only cooked a very simple range of food, including frozen burgers and sausages, choosing one BBQ as the vegetarian one, and using the other one as the meat BBQ in an attempt to stop any cross contamination for my wife who is a vegetarian. Both disposable BBQ's did a good job for cooking the food in a safe and controlled manner without any severe burning occurring to any of the food. The heat provided was plenty for the type of food I was cooking, and the BBQ's stayed plenty warm enough to enable me to complete all the cooking of all the food that I had.
The benefits to these disposable barbecues are that they are cheap to buy, easy to store, quick to get started, and simple to use. We often take them to the beach or to a park and cook up a nice treat for ourselves on a sunny day. They are ideal for thin cuts of meat, such as burgers, sausages, kebabs or pork chops, but they are not all that suitable for thick cuts of steak, as the meat would struggle to cook through correctly in time before the heat started to fade.
Overall these Bar Be Quick disposable barbeques are pretty good compared to some other brands. The meat cooks nice and evenly, and the foil tray is durable enough to avoid any splitting and spillage of the charcoal. I think the only possible downside to them is that they are a little on the small side, and an extra couple of inches in length and width would improve them a lot, although I'm sure that this would also increase the cost considerably too!
Thanks for reading.
