Argos Deluxe Kettle Charcoal BBQ
by thriftygiftyisme
=Argos Deluxe Kettle Charcoal BBQ=
My old BBQ was that rusty that I wasn't sure what was BBQ and what was rust, as we use BBQ on an ad-hoc basis, and there are 3 adults and 1 child, I wanted a BBQ that was going to last for a few years, but was also practical in terms of storage.
=Price=
This was priced at ... £49.99, but we picked it up on a sale and paid £39.99, so with what we saved we treated ourselves to some new tools.
=Flat Pack=
I don't really know what I was expecting, but when I went to collect it, it was a flat pack unit, the good news the instructions were included, and once you took a lot at the leaflet it became apparent that it was going to be easy to assemble.
His lordship assembled it, we had 1 or 2 swear words, but hey men and diy, thou the swearing was trying to find his tool box, (whoops I'd chucked some car boot items in the shed). But within 10 minutes he the BBQ assembled.
=The BBQ=
The BBQ is lightweight, but sturdy, it is constructed from a mixture of plastic and steel, the colour way is that of black and blue.
=Legs=
There are 3 legs on the BBQ and with these are wheels which you use to move the BBQ around on. These are strong, easy to move and go where you want, unlike some supermarket trolleys.
=Cover=
You can purchase waterproof covers for the BBQ, there around £10, but as mine gets stored in the shed, we didn't bother getting one.
=Using The BBQ=
This is a charcoal based BBQ, and you can use the bags that you light and it does it all for you, or the lets build a pyramid and try with lighter cubes to get it filled. I tend to use about 3/4 of a 5kg bag for cooking, that fills the base up lovely.
=Storage Space=
There is a storage space for the tools that you can whilst cooking, which I find handy to use.
=Cooking=
It is a charcoal based BBQ, and once you have the coals ready to cook on there is a large round grill that fits the base, there is a lid with it, which I tend to use while I'm waiting for the charcoal to be ready.
it has a good size cooking area, it easily suits the family, we find that the food cooks evenly, and the cooking time can be about an hour to hour and half, depending on how much charcoal you have used.
=Cleaning=
The dreaded part of any BBQ is cleaning up the ashes, with this BBQ I would almost say it is a pleasure to clean, as the ash is collected into a tray and you then just wipe out the inner chamber.
=Would I recommend=
I would recommend this BBQ, we used it about 8 times last year and never had any problems with it, I just feel that £40 it was more on the expensive side, had it not been an impulse purchase I would have researched.
I would say this is more suited to someone with a smaller space, such as a patio, as it is a compact design and I feel that your paying for the flexibility to move the unit quickly, and the build of it.
Overall it's a 4/5 Read the complete review |

Sainsbury's Party Disposable BBQ
by thriftygiftyisme
Sainsbury's Party Disposable BBQ
We use the Argos Kettle BBQ at home, and when we had booked for our summer holiday, we decided that we would make the use of the patio furniture that had been supplied with the caravan we hired, so we brought 2 Sainsbury's Party Disposable BBQ, as there was 3 adults and 1 child, and from previous ... experience we find the standard size too small.
=Price / Size=
I paid £4.99 for each of the BBQs, size this was the party size, I would say it was about 5in in depth, and was about twice the size of 2 standard BBQs, the nearest comparison I could think of would be a page of A3 sized paper.
=The Packaging=
Once you have removed the cardboard sleeve, the bottom of the BBQ is filled with charcoal and this has been pre-topped with a wire mesh, which is the cooking layer, this layer is securely fixed to the base of the unit.
=To Use=
We just gave the BBQ a quick tap on the side to even the charcoal out, then to light the BBQ you light the paper which is pre-lined into the BBQ and from here this works through the BBQ lighting it. Make sure that your cooking on a level surface and somewhere safe.
=Time=
It took about 20 minutes for the flames and the smoke to dispense, the flames were more from the paper, at this stage the charcoal had turned from black to white and was ready to be used.
=Heat=
I was very impressed with the heat from the BBQ, it cooked the food through perfectly, we had Gammon, Pork steaks, Beef Burgers, Sausage, Bacon, Pineapple and my favourite the baked banana. Once we had cooked the main food we left the banana to warm through.
=Taste=
The food had the smoky feel which you get from a BBQ, and taste wise there was no difference than cooking on a traditional BBQ.
=Any problems=
There was a good amount of heat from the BBQ, although I did find the less fatty items like the bacon did stick on the mesh and I had to force them off, I had no BBQ tools so I was using 2 forks and a spatula.
=Cooling Off=
I needed to make sure that the BBQ was in a safe place to cool down, as even though the cooking heat has gone the residue heat was still there, I placed mine under a seat, outside the caravan and disposed of it next day with the rubbish.
=Would I recommend=
I would recommend this BBQ as it was a lot better than those that I have previously used, although they are not cost effective to use on a regular basis, but for a change on holiday it is a good family time.
