Advantages: A sturdy and stable stand, means I don't have to kneel on the floor when using my disposable bbq
Disadvantages: ---------
Those little disposable barbeques you can buy for £2 or £3 are very good at cooking the burgers and sausages but they are a little bit awkward to cook on because the aluminium base gets so hot that I could not put it on my garden table for fear of marking the wood. I was therefore having to put the barbeque on the floor on my slabbed patio area and I found it hard to keep bending down to turn the food over while it was cooking.
I went back into B&Q a few days ago to stock up on a couple of their brilliant disposable barbeques and there I saw the answer to my problem. B&Q now sell a clever little stand to place your disposable barbeque on while you are using it to raise it up to normal barbeque height, so no more kneeling on the concrete for me!
The stand comes folded up and looks a little like a camping stool when it is folded up, it is then just a case of flicking it open and placing your disposable barbeque on top.
It opens very smoothly and I found my disposable barbeque fit snugly on the top with the sides of the upper part of the frame holding my barbeque securely. I had to open the foil lip on the barbeque slightly so that the frame would fit under them but this probably was not necessary because the actual base of the barbeque fits very well.
When using the stand, my barbeque came to about waist height and this is ideal because I brought out my little hostess trolley and they were about the same height so I could keep all my barbecuing utensils and burger buns at hand without having to keep bending and stretching to reach them. I think the stand is very sturdy and it doesn't wobble all over the place when I am trying to cook our burgers, this is a good thing because barbeques get so hot and it would be very dangerous if the stand was not so stable. I have used it both on slabs and on the grass and both times it has been stable and supports my barbeque securely.
Having said that, please be aware when you have animals and children attending your barbeque as the size and narrowness of this stand means it is not as stable as a normal hefty gas barbeque and I would not expect it to be. It could topple over if an over excited child grabbed hold of one of the legs and I shudder to think what the consequences would be.
The disposable stand does not get hot at all so do not worry that you are going to get burned by resting your barbeque on it. I thought it might get a little bit hot at the top because metal is such an effective conductor of heat but it is fine. The stand looks nice, it is a very basic design and really is just a steel framework with no extra embellishments to make it more useful or more attractive. The design is very good though and it does exactly what it is meant for.
Because it is made of steel I would suggest you store it indoors when not in use because it will go rusty eventually and this could cause the folding mechanism to stiffen and it would not look very nice either.
You can buy disposable barbeques from B&Q, but this stand will also fit other similar sized barbeques. I used one from the pound shop yesterday and it fit just as well even though it was slightly narrower than the B&Q disposable barbeques.
This stand only cost me £2.98 and I think this is excellent value. As silly as it sounds this simple frame is a life changing product for me because even though I have a gas barbeque I use the disposable ones when I am cooking for only myself or 2 of us. Having to kneel on the floor to flip my burgers was not good for my knees and I think eventually I would have given up using disposable barbeques if I had not discovered this stand because when you get to my age getting down is easy, but getting back up is hard work!
Summary: Makes easy work of using those little disposable barbeques.
