Advantages: Solid Construction, Food tastes good!

Disadvantages: weight

So what is it about this BBQ. It's big, heavy, and looks like a steam train. But fire it up and you have a BBQ that can cook and/or smoke a great deal of food. The results are really tasty.

It comes unassembled in a large (and heavy) box. This box has a label warning that two people are needed to lift. They are right, unless you have a trolley or some form of lifting device.

Once opened you have a set of fairly readily identified parts along with a myriad of nuts, screws, washers and bolts! The instructions should be read a couple of times before attempting assembly. It can be easy to miss something, that will mean having to take things apart to reassemble.

Another reviewer mentions how difficult it is to put together. I can agree to some degree. But if you bother to sort and count the nuts, etc. it makes the job a great deal easier. I got confused and swapped round the bolts that hold the hadles with the ones that support the cooking grills. Only discovering this AFTER I had fired up the BBQ. So be careful, and you should be OK.

The Brinkmann can take a large amount of coals/wood, and thus can cook a great deal of food. If you are an occassional BBQ'er who only cooks for a couple of folk, then this BBQ is not for you.

I have used it to cook whole chickens (average size bird in about 2 hours) and legs of lamb (similar time).

I would recommend the purchase of a cover for the BBQ. Mine showed signs of rust after a couple of weeks out in the British weather. Also, you should buy some form of pot to catch the fat that drips out of the hole designed for just that purpose! I was surprised how much was produced by a couple of pound of sausages.

All in all, I am very pleased with the Brinkmann. My kids certainly like the results of my labours. Give it a go!
