Brilliant compact gas multicooker & BBQ for camping, day's out, motorhomes, caravans (Cadac Safari Chef 6531)
Member Name: daafyduck
Advantages: Compact, doddle to use & clean, portable, lightweight Disadvantages: Gas cannisters expensive, cooking area small We have just bought the Cadac Safari Chef portable BBQ and have already used it several times. The whole thing weighs 7kg and folds up into a small carry bag so it's ideal for camping, fishing, day's out or just to use in your garden. There are four cooking surfaces comprising of a wok, griddle reversing to a flat grill plate & wire grill. The wok can also be used as a lid. Therefore you can bbq, grill, fry, boil, oven or roast food. Assembly is really easy, just fold the legs out, screw on a resealable cannister and choose your cooking method. (You can get a different model which uses a hose and regulator with a large gas bottle but obviously this is not as portable.) There is a deflector pate which also collects fat and a bottom deflector to disperse heat. We were really sceptical when we bought this as a few caravan/motorhome reviews said that it didn't get hot enough. Maybe the design has changed but we used it on Sunday in the most horrendous gale in an open field and it was fantastic, cooking enough for 16 people! You can cook for 4 at a time e.g. 4 burgers or kebabs or a pack of sausages will fit on easily and the plate is evenly heated. The lids is good to retain the heat. The resealable cartridges are quite expensive at £5.99 each but Millets and Blacks often do 20% off deals. We've had ours running for about 1 1/2 hours and still on the first cylinder so it's more frugal than you might think. It's a doddle to clean, just the fat collecter and cooking surface get dirty for normal barbie use. They are all non-stick (except rack) so no scrubbing and soaking for hours. It you want an easy, portable and compact outdoor multicooker then I would highly recommend the Cadac. Summary: Wish I'd bought one years ago. |
