George Foreman 10099
Advantages: Good value
Disadvantages: Shame it can't hold a bit more!
This review is of the George Foreman 10099, an indoor grill, very useful for small amounts of cooking.
The model I have, and as far as I know the only colour that is available for this model, is silver coloured. The packaging notes that it can hold six chicken breasts to give you an indication of the amount of food that it can both hold and cook.
For those that aren't aware, grills such as these can be very efficient in terms of the speed at which they cook, which may mean you don't need to power up an oven, and they can be of health benefit, given that the fat drains off to an easily cleanable and removable tray.
I'd note at this point that cleaning the grill really isn't too difficult because of the removable tray, but it is something that is best done immediately after cooking, as parts of the equipment are slightly difficult to clean, and it's best to stay on top of this. Overall though, I found this just as easy, if not easier, to keep clean as any other oven.
Foods which I've found this item good at cooking are chicken breasts, bacon, burgers, sausages and so on (all the food which doesn't sound very healthy!), and it's easy to change the height given the different thicknesses of the food as there is a "floating hinge" which allows for this.
The main advantage for me was actually having this at a separate location from where I'd normally cook, which made cooking accessible and simple. The cooking speeds are good, cooking meat is much quicker than it takes in an oven, which is at least cost effective in terms of energy!
Another advantage would be for those who might have limited space in the kitchen, as this takes up very little space, and is easy to store when not in use. Not to mention how satisfying it is to see so much fat draining off the meat, and the obvious health benefits of this!
As another extra, the equipment comes with some recipes for items to cook using the grill, as well as detailed instructions on how to use it. These are a useful addition, and are well presented and accessible.
The George Foreman retails at 69.99 pounds, but can currently be purchased from Amazon themselves for 54.87 pounds. Second hand reconditioned grills can be, at the time of writing, found on sites such as eBay and Amazon for around 30 pounds plus postage.
Overall, I found this to be a very useful cooking device, easy to use and easy to store and clean. Suitable really only for small meals, ideally just for one, but very convenient for making quick snacks. Definitely a healthy way of cooking, and much quicker. The unit seems sturdy and well built and has given me no problems! Great buy!
Summary: Definitely a good purchase for me, worth considering
