Sainsburys disposable barbecue

A few weeks ago, we actually saw some sunshine, and it was clearly barbecue time. Having made the decision to invite several people round for an evening of sausages and burgers, I felt the gas canister of our gas barbecue and there was very little gas left. Not having time to buy gas it required a trip to my local Sainsburys where I found this, to use as a "just in case..."

PRODUCT AND PACKAGING...

The barbecue is described as a party barbecue, with sainsburys selling one similar but smaller. It comes wrapped in the usual plastic and once inside, the foil barbecue sits on a small metal stand on the ground, not, as i originally imagined, a stand at standing height. Lifting off the lid, there is the usual charcoal and a metal grill over the top to sit the sausages on.

It measures about 50cm by 30 cm so there is plenty of space for the sausages. The disposable barbecue is relatively sturdy although I would suggest putting it on a level surface and once it's cooking away, don't move it because although it's strong foil, it's still only foil. Not only is it hot, but it could also buckle and let the hot charcoal out.

The information tells me that it is ready to cook in just 20minutes, no preparation is necessary and that it cooks for up to 1 ½ hours.

USING IT...

It's very simple to use and the instructions on the packaging give details on how to use it. The one thing I was tempted to do was to remove the cardboard from the top of the charcoal but this should not be done. Instead, you simply drop a lighted match under one corner of this starter paper and wait for the flames to die down before cooking. Don't cook until the charcoal has a coating of ash on it and agitate every so often so that there is even heat distribution.

WARNINGS...

There are the usual warnings, most of which I think are common sense, including:
* Keep children and pets away
* Do not use lighting fluid
* Ensure all the contents are cold before disposing of the barbecue
* Dispose of the barbecue carefully
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY...

This cost £4.99 and is available instore or online at www.sainsbury.co.uk

VERDICT...

This did in fact heat up within 20 minutes and gave use plenty of time for the cooking of the sausages. It is easy to use, won't break the bank and saves alot of time buying all the bits and pieces seperately. In the event we used the gas barbecue and this one, and i would readily buy one again especially for a barbecue with not many people or if I ran out of gas. The charcoal gets hot enough to cook the food (a bonus!) and it's easy to dispose of.

A useful item for the summer months and one which I would recommend.

Thanks for reading.

£4.99! That's a bit steep I only paid £2.00 for mine in ASDA - haven't tried it yet and the weather is on the turn! Typical Richada bad timing! Richard. xxx

Good review & presentation as excellent as always!

I've often thought about these but wondered what the supermarket ones are like. I buy mine from the pound shops.
