Weber Compact Charcoal BBQ
Advantages: Its cheap, handy and portable
Disadvantages: Its not ideal for tall people
For me the perfect summer evening is sitting in the garden with the sun slowly setting, my daughter splashing around in the paddling pool, the cool breeze on the back of my neck and the smell of a fresh BBQ just wafting around the garden.
At the beginning of summer this year we attempted to dig our old BBQ out of the overflowing garage. When eventually reaching it was so damaged and rusty we decided that it had lit its last flame and it was time for the tip.
Not wanting to buy an expensive BBQ we headed down to Tesco to have a look at their summer BBQ range. That's when we came across the Weber charcoal BBQ. It wasn't exactly a flash one but that's all we needed, a simple BBQ that would cook our food. This particular BBQ was selling at half price so we got it for a bargain at £30.00 instead of the £60.00 that it was originally priced at.
The BBQ comes flat packed and required assembling. Me and my partner put it up together and found it somewhat difficult. The instructions don't provide to be very useful consisting of mainly confusing looking pictures. However after putting together and then taking it apart to add the bits we missed around three times we finally had it sussed.
I was pleasantly surprised at the height of the BBQ as I had assumed from the look of the picture that it would be small. It comes up to hip/waist height which for my small size is perfect to flip the burgers and turn the sausages. Unfortunately if you are above 5 foot 3 (my height) it's probably going to be a bending or possibly a kneeling job if you are incredibly tall. Saying that you could always put it on a raised platform if you have one.
The BBQ is round with a large lid; it has 3 legs 2 of which have wheels so this makes for handy and easy transportation around the garden. It also has a small circle dish under the BBQ, I'm not too sure what the actual function of this is but we use it to put sauces and things on. The Majority of the BBQ is black sparing the legs which are silver. As far as I'm aware this is the only colour the BBQ comes in.
To get the BBQ started is very simple, it is a charcoal BBQ so this would be an addition that you would have to purchase separately. It would also be handy to get some firelighters. When we have BBQ's we always line the base with tin foil, this helps the BBQ to stay lit and it also avoids all of that cleaning afterwards.
The BBQ has air holes in the bottom, this has a function to able to open and close this. It's important that if you have tin foil on the bottom that you put holes in the bottom or it to let the air in. now I can't pretend that I am a BBQ expert and it is usually my partner who does the BBQ so I couldn't be too sure if you have to have the air holes open or close when the BBQ is lit. I do however know that one of them allows the BBQ to stay lit and the other helps put the BBQ out. I would make a guess but I don't want anybody to take my advice and then spoil their BBQ so I would advise you to find that out before you start your BBQ.
The lid that comes with the BBQ also helps put the BBQ out when it is no longer in use, this also has air holes on that can be opened or closed again I really am not too sure how this works. The handles on the BBQ are heat proof so they do not scold your hands when you attempt to hold it, they are still warm however so watch out for that.
The BBQ is large enough to fit enough food on for us ( two and a half people) thats around 4 sausages and 3 burgers so its a good enough size.
The BBQ comes with a measuring cup so you know exactly how much coal to put in; this is very handy for people like me who don't know an awful lot about BBQ's! The BBQ claims to be none rusting but I won't know how good the claim is until next year when I dig it out.
The main reason I got this was for the garden but due to it being small and light weight it is easy and hassle free to travel to the beach etc.
It may be to late this year but this is a great BBQ and it's definitely worth buying and putting away for next year. I would highly recommend it!
Summary: Enjoy a BBQ all of the time!
