Weber Compact Charcoal BBQ
Advantages: sturdy, stylish and well designed
Disadvantages: price could be a little cheaper perhaps
I sighed today as the rain fell, as it signalled the end of summer in my eyes. That also means no more barbies. My favourite way of having a meal is flamegrilled, outside, in the hot, hot sun, sitting under the gazebo. There is something instilled in men to want to cook with fire, I think it must stem from the stone age. My dad never cooks. He only comes alive in the cooking department when fire is involved. Out comes the Weber and the tongs and a look of committment to the cause on his face, as he empties bucketloads of charcoal into the grill and proceeds to reaffirm his manliness.
The Weber barbie is a smart old fellow, available in a choice of black, which is handy because it hides dirt and dust marks. The compact barbie is a scaled down version of the bigger Weber, which we also have. The compact version is only forty seven centimetres in height but that does not stop it being a feisty number. You can still cook enough food for four people in one go, so long as you layer the food neatly enough on the supplied grill. Any sediment is collected by the silver tray which slots in between the legs and this can be emptied as and when you please. The top lid is removable with an easy to grip handle and it slots on neatly too.
To avoid getting burnt, the handles have a built in cooling mechanism so you can get on and cook without worrying about hot fingers. What impressed me the most is the size and way you can wheel it around with ease, this means the transition from garage to patio is a smooth and painless journey whenever you want to get it out. You can leave it outside, but longterm exposure will weather the metal, as we found with the other Weber we have. Prices hover around the sixty pound mark which seems like a good price to me for such a sturdy bit of kit. It should last you years too, so look on it as an investment.
Summary: very good compact barbecue
