Running Rabbit (Warsaw, Poland)
by dangaroo
"Running Rabbit" the English translation of "Pedzacy Krolik" is a cafe/pubrestaurant located at the end of Plac Teatralny, within walking distance of the old town, tomb of the unknown soldier and a stone's throw (literally) away from the main theatre.
Deemed by magazines and gazettes for tourists as whacky ... and well worth a visit, a kitsch decor and good location are about the only things it has really going for it, chequered floors, mirrors and a giant rabbit are some of the things you can expect to turn up in this place.
That's not to say there's anything wrong with the service, the drinks are fine too but the prices are a bit over the top and you can find equally as eccentric pubs in abundance with much cheaper drinks at Nowy Swiat 22. Open from 10am to midnight, you can expect to pay 9 or 10zl (2 quidish) for a beer depending on the tipple.
I can't say I've ventured in to the bunny's kitchen and tested the culinary options of this place but they seem limited to cakes, salads and pasta dishes with dearer prices than many nearby alternatives and with the old town recently getting a bit cheaper, it's probably not worth it. This is in a very expensive row of cafes, bars and clubs though so it's kind of to be expected and if you are the type who likes to pamper yourself with an expensive cup of coffee then you'll likely be at home in this real life chess board rabbit barren! Vu's Bar (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)
by ridgeway27
Having heard so much about this bar, I wanted to visit it during one of my visits to Dubai. The bar is set on floor 51 of the 'Hotel' Tower, of the famous and well-known Jumeirah Emirates Towers.
One of my first concerns when arriving at this bar was that I would probably fall asleep in the elevator (51 floors must take a ... while even if there aren't any stops en-route!!) but having anticipated this, the builders installed 4 or 5 'faster' or dedicated elevators, which allow visitors to the bar to speed straight through - and it really is so fast!! It felt almost like the elevator from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory may have felt!!
Now for the bar... When you enter, there is a quiet and calm ambiance with the main bar area and lots of tables and chairs near the windows (as can be seen in the pic). The staff provided table service which is a nice personal touch and the windows provide (or at least when I went) panoramic views of Dubai - apparently, seeing the sunset from this vantage point is amazing!!! It is also possible to see all of the famous Sheikh Zayed Road (a main road), and the more famous landmarks but I found it to be a little awkward with the angle at which the windows have been set to continue looking through for a lengthy period of time.
It was quite late when I went (around 2-3am), so it wasn't so busy and I was able to talk to my friends easily but we almost felt like it wasn't a venue in which you would go too wild - it is far too sophisticated for that! Having said that, we did have a laugh and fun - it's just that other than the 'Vu' (view) this bar is very similar to many of the others in Dubai....
Drinks were also pricey - I can't remember now exactly how much we paid, and even so exchange rates affect these things hugely too - but I remember a comment regarding the steep prices. Having said that, they bar staff were very accommodating and would try to make drinks which suited our individual tastes and I had a pretty amazing cocktail!!
I think I would recommend seeing this bar once if you're around, but you won't spoil your holiday if you miss it out! Read the complete review |

Plan B (Warsaw, Poland)
by dangaroo
Plan B is a club/pub in Warsaw that can be found at Plac Zbawiciela just a handful of tram stops from Metro Centrum towards the south. A 'square' that is in fact a circle of arches with various restaurants and bars there, Plan B has been in town for a couple of years and is owned by the same people as Powiekszenie a good club in the ... centre.
Plan B is notoriously alternative and offers different music on different nights, earlier in the week there is often a bit of hip hop or dancehall and it usually lends itself to rock, funk and rarer tunes towards the end of the week. The DJ's - Warsaw City Rockers who pride themselves on playing garage music from the 60s and proto punk from the 70s also usually make at least an appearance or two a month.
The seating is comfortable but the place has drawn a lot of custom in recent years which means that it's often absolutely packed, there's a backroom that is put together with a sort of industrial feel to it but you get the feeling it's supposed to be cosy as it's blocked from the rest of the pub with a curtain and speakers don't blast out music into that part.
With popularity, the prices have also rised and beer is about 9zl (about 2 pounds at the moment), whilst not extortionate, it's a bit steeper than I prefer to pay, the alternative music played here also tends to attract a lot of the rich studenty types who whilst harmless enough, I personally find quite irritating.
By no means a place that would be top on my list but the kind of place you can always fall back on - Plan B is the perfect name. Read the complete review |
