... to most capital cities, Cairo s nightlife options leave a lot to be desired but they could be considered liberal compared to neighbouring Islamic capital cities. Cairo certainly has it s own flavour when it comes to pubs and clubs - generally there are two sorts, dirty cheap male filled pubs which are hidden in little alleys and the luxurious hotel club/pub or Russian ran outfits which are usually in Zamalek or by the Nile. After Eight offers something in the middle, cheaper than the five star hotel type but with decent music (often live bands) and a good range of drinks and cocktails. ... usually go to academic conferences in Prague, which can be quite dry and sober affairs at the best of times. However academics, like many other sectors, like to unwind after a hard days arguing and posing, so repairing to the bar to discuss the latest theoretical perspectives, or to just get drunk, is a frequently-indulged pastime post-conference. Naturally, Prague is world-famous for its beer, and rightly so. Some of my favourites are the Irish theme bars off Wenceslas Square (which isn t a square, but there you go). ... is a bar that is different at all times of the day. For me, it is only worth coming to in the morning when they have the English breakfast. Eggs with runny yolks (the only place I know in Vilnius to do this), sausages, toast, jam, mushrooms, tomatoes and free tea, all for around 4 pounds - well this isn t bad. Other times of the day aren t the best. Recently they raised the price of their meals on the menu at a time when everyone else was lowering theirs. They also made their portions a little smaller - something, which isn t a good thing considering that Lithuanian portions are already quite small.
