Bars in Barcelona are generally excellent! Many are dark inside and not much to look at, but they have a relaxed atmosphere, a laid back approach to measures, and are a great price. Many places have table service as a standard, although there are places more along the lines of pubs in England where you go and buy your own drink, which is the better option if you are in a hurry. Usually they bring you some peanuts or pretzels with your drink. One of my favourite bars in Barcelona is called Ambar, and is just of the Rambla by the Teatre Liceu. They play good music, and it's a great place for people-watching whilst being slightly less touristy than a lot of places located on the Rambla - when we were there, there were a lot of locals, which is always a good sign. Cocktails there are good, and it's only a couple of euros for a glass of wine or a beer. The only downside to the bars for me is the fact that there is no smoking ban yet, and it seems that everyone takes full advantage of that fact!

Summary: One of my favourite cities, at least in part due to the bar scene
