A cosy, red-coloured lounge, with upstairs and garden in the summer, this is a well-chosen bar for anyone, as the friendly staff (Ola -who married in Vegas?) will make you feel a part of this local with it's friendly service and many an interesting conversation as well as cocktails... Revival, 15th and Irving, in the East Village, Manhattan. This is the frequented hang-out by New York Film Academy (NYFA) students (Union Square), as well as Lee Strasberg acting students! A cosy, red-coloured lounge, with upstairs and garden in the summer, this is a well-chosen bar for anyone, as the friendly staff (Ola -who married in Vegas?) will make you feel a part of this local with it's friendly service and many an interesting conversation as well as cocktails... The best and friendliest bar in the west village has to be Tavern on Jane at 8th Avenue and Jane Street. Owned by lifetime friends, Michael and Horton, it is tucked away on the corner of Jane Street. It's a bit like Cheers - everyone knows everyone in there, and after spending a night (or day) in there, everyone will know you too. They serve great food (the garlic mash is wonderful, and their steaks are really excellent). No trip to NY is complete without a trip to Tavern. I enjoy a drink in the UK and was a bit wary of the safety side of hanging out in New York. I went on holiday with a rough guide in hand. Staying in Hotel 17 @225 east 17th I traveled to many bars of vastly different types all over Manhattan. I have traveled far and wide but was amazed to find the friendliest people I have ever met in a major city. The bar staff introduce themselves (the cynics amongst us, me included, thought this was tip orientated, at least at first) and then introduced anyone else they had been talking to.
