I really do like the atmosphere of drinking out in Paris. I can't really speak for the tourist pubs that are right in the middle of the centre, as having stayed with French friends, I was taken to more of the locals' haunts. I have always maintained that the best way to truly dig the character and culture of a city is to hang out in it's local bars. Here, you can get a real flavour for the place, try the local food and drink, meet the city's inhabitants and generally soak up the vibe. I have to say, having applied this theory recently to the city of Paris, I was hugely impressed, and pretty much fell in love with the place. I had been to Paris before as a youngster, and had enjoyed very much seeing all of the populat tourist attractions.
